Description
This collection, commissioned on the day by series organiser Lyndon Thruston, covers the final round of the Historic 750 Formula series at Mallory Park, UK.
The images were later praised for capturing something the series “often struggles with – atmosphere,” balancing the thrill of grassroots racing with the emotional nuance in the paddock.
Out on the circuit, I experimented with lower shutter speeds to make tracked stills on the circuits’ long straights more evocative. I used the same principle to make battles and cornering more dynamic, letting changes in speed and direction register as soft blur and motion within the frame.
I wanted to capture the atmosphere as much as the racing itself. I used drivers’ eyes to guide composition and express the tension and anticipation before a session; equally, I focused on the camaraderie and togetherness that define this level of grassroots motorsport.
The resulting images create a portrait of a formula final that is rich in passion, energy and authentic human connection.
